Guide: Kelantan
Kelantan – which has the honorific Darul Naim or the ‘The Blissful Abode’, and is often called the Land of Lightning – is positioned in the north-east of Peninsular Malaysia with the capital city and royal seat at Kota Bharu.
It is bordered by Narathiwat Province of Thailand and the South China Sea to the north, Terengganu to the southeast, Perak to the west, and Pahang to the south.
Kelantan attraction comes from heritage and culture: it is home to some of the most ancient archaeological discoveries in Malaysia, including prehistoric settlements. Kelantanese culture is more rural and different to the rest of the peninsula; this is reflected in the cuisine, arts, and the language which cannot be understood my people fluent in BM.
