KLM Introduces Wi-Fi On Board

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

KLM and Air France will introduce an inflight connectivity service that will allow you to stay connected on long-haul flights using your own device. Both  airlines will introduce Wi-Fi on board on a Boeing 777-300. Offered in partnership with Panasonic Avionics, the service will enable you to enter the internet, send and receive text messages and e-mails. VOIP (Voice Over IP) is blocked which inhibits the function of making phone calls and the use of applications like Skype & Facetime.

The wireless service will turn on once the aircraft reaches 20.000 feet (6KM), giving the passenger access to a specially designed inflight portal website once the device (tablet/phone/ipod/laptop) is connected to the KLM Wi-Fi network.

There are two versions of this service for passengers to choose from, the free service and the paid Wi-Fi.

The free service will connect to the onboard server at no charge. The content available consists of some destination info, news, weather, access to mobile KLM site, link to feedback questionnaire, KLM info, inflight shopping promo, car rental link.

For the paid Wi-Fi, passengers will have to purchase access per hour or for the entire flight. One will need a credit card to pay.
