Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Malaysian Zulfahmi Khairuddin created history by being the first Malaysian to finish second at the Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Priz at the Sepang Circuit yesterday. Zulfahmi was just two corners away from victory before being passed by German Sandro Cortese. This is Zulfahmi’s first ever career podium achievement, and also Malaysia’s first in the World Motorcycle Championships.

The AirAsia-SIC-Ajo rider, who celebrated his 21st birthday on Saturday, sizzled on the tracks by setting a lap record of 2 minutes and 13.885 seconds.

The crowd, all 77,000 of them were ecstatic with Zulfahmi’s win, and were even more thrilled with another Malaysian rider, 17 year old Hafiz from the Petronas  Raceline Malaysia team. Hafiz managed to push his way from his 27th grid position, and go all the way up to no.4, despite the rainy weather in the Moto2 race.

Both Zulfahmi and Hafiz will be remembered for producing the greatest day in the history of Malaysian motorsport.
