Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei will no longer be the world No.1 in Badminton from tomorrow onwards. Chong Wei’s spot will be taken over by China’s Chen Long, following the his success in the men’s singles final at the BWF World Superseries Finals.

Lee Chong Wei held the world No.1 spot for six years. However, he has been inactive since September this year, after the Incheon Asian Games in South Korea.

Chong Wei has been indefinitely suspended by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) on November 11, after testing positive for a doping test at the World Championships in Copenhagen in Denmark, on the 30th of August. He was also unable to defend his title at the Superseries Finals, which resulted in him losing out on a lot of points. In his absence these past few months, China’s Chen Long managed to pile up his ranking points by winning the Denmark Open and the Superseries Finals, which brings his total points to 90,361. Chong Wei’s points are at 84, 361.

According to The Star, Chong Wei’s BWF hearing will most probably take place next year, which may result in the player struggling to qualify for the 2016 Olympics.
