The official/national mourning day for Malaysia Airlines MH17 victims will be this Friday, 22 August, 2014.
On this day, the first batch of the remains of MH17 victims will be brought back to Malaysia.
No dress code had been imposed on the public, but the Cabinet ministers would be dressed in black.
Family members who travelled to Amsterdam would arrive at the KL International Airport on Friday at 6am, while the aircraft carrying the remains of the victims would arrive at 10am. The remains will then be transported to hearses, and this process will take up to 40 to 45 minutes, or longer.
The ceremony will begin once the bodies have all been placed in the hearses. At the end of the ceremony, some of the bodies will be transported to burial grounds, while others will be flown via five Nuri helicopters and two C-130 aircrafts.
According to Malaysia’s Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, the authorities in Amsterdam had identified 28 Malaysians involved in the MH17 crash. More than the expected 16 remains would arrive at KLIA on Friday.
The King, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mu’adzam Shah, will lead the nation in paying the last respects to the victims.
