World Cup Finals 2014: Congratulations to the Germans!

After a long month of sleepless nights (for some), debates, and sick leaves, the beautiful game has finally dribbled to an end. As Gary Lineker puts it, “Football is a simple game. Twenty-two men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end, the Germans always win.” Congratulations to Germans all over the world, including the German expatriates here in Malaysia, for the 1-0 victory over Argentina from a stunning, extra time goal by Mario Götze.

64 games and 171 goals later, Germany stood tall and proud with the coveted prize in their hand. The Germans last took home the trophy back in 1990. The four-time winning champions are the first European team, led by manager Joachim Löw, to win the World Cup trophy on Latin American soil. The terrific win marked Germany’s national football team as one of the most successful national teams in the FIFA World Cup, for having won four tournaments and reaching four other finals.
