Putrajaya’s Lake May Be New Source of Water Supply in KL

What was, and still is, a tourist attraction in Putrajaya, may become a source of water supply for those in the Klang Valley. This will likely happen if the water in the dams were to reach a critical level, due to the El Nino phenomenon which is expected to hit Malaysia at the end of this month.

Aside from the Putrajaya Lake, the Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry are also considering other lakes, including the one in Mines in Seri Kembangan.

According to Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, the alternative source of water was among the proposals to be tabled at the first meeting of the El Nino Committee.

“We also plan to obtain underground water to supplement the water supply needed, whether for domestic or industrial use during the dry season.

“The El Nino Committee, however, would need to first obtain data on water levels in the dams throughout the country before making a decision.”
