The organisers of the recent Langkawi Live One Earth Blues Festival 2014 managed to raise RM6,640 for the Charity Club of Langkawi.

According to event organiser Patrick Chen, “When Langkawi Live was first organised four years ago we had several ideas in mind – to provide a festival featuring great music, to be as eco-friendly as possible and to give back to the needy on the island of Langkawi. This year, we celebrated Earth Hour during the festival with an acoustic campfire set and also were able to raise funds for the valuable work being done within the Langkawi community by the Charity Club of Langkawi. Our event passes were modestly priced with 33% going directly to the charity. Festival goers also gave generously through our on-site charity boxes so we were able to raise a grand total of RM6,640.”

Receiving the cheque on behalf of Charity Club of Langkawi was Shiela Allum, who expresses how grateful the club was to Langkawi Live 2014 for supporting the Charity Club of Langkawi with a generous donation.

The Charity Club of Langkawi assists those in need. Families and individuals are identified and their needs assessed by the club for the short, medium or long term. The club does not distribute cash but rather assists with schooling, medical and domestic needs as well as through supplying basic food parcels containing rice, eggs, garlic, chilli, potatoes, sugar, flour, canned fish, cooking oil, dried fish, fresh vegetables and washing powder. Nappies and infant milk is provided for those with young children. The club is run by a group of hard working volunteers and 96% of all funds raised are distributed with the remaining 4% being used for administrative costs.

Langkawi Live One Earth Blues Festival 2014 was staged at Meritus Pelangi’s Langkawi’s Cba over the weekend of March 28 -29. It not only attracted the locals and local expats but also tourists staying on the island as well as those who had travelled from Kuala Lumpur and Penang for the weekend.
