Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Journey back in time with the Young KL Singers, or YKLS, this October, and discover the roots of Western classical music in this exciting production.

The YKLS’s annual concert has never failed to capture the hearts of audiences with their mesmerizing vocals. This year’s concert, YKLS.PERIOD, is an exploration of vocal music written during western civilization’s most influential period – a true birthplace of the Arts. The choir will take audiences on a tour, back in time to the different musical themes played out on stage such as romance, love, courtship, death, devotion, sadness and betrayal. Each piece is an adaption of different schools and styles of vocal music from different time periods – ranging from the medieval ear, to music from Europe, Central America, France, German and even Spain.

Musical influences from composers such as Bach, Orlande di Lassus and Robert Johnson runs throughout the show; tying the pieces together in a poetic story through song and dance. The songs will bring your imagination to life, when you listen to the melodic drama unfold right before your eyes on stage as the choir sings through seasons of change from spring to summer and autumn to winter.

Whether it is stories of King Henry the VIII with its praise for courtly indulgence; a commoner’s celebration of roast goose and wine which captures the spirit of a provincial feast; or the sadness of a young woman who has been abandoned – YKLS.PERIOD captures the spirit of those times and presents it to you in a manner understood by all.

This show is directed by Ian Chow, Susanna Saw and Mak Chi Hoe who also serves as the Music Director. Joe Hasham OAM is the Artistic Director.

Join them as they journey back in time and discover the roots of Western classical music in this exciting production! YKLS.PERIOD promises something for everyone and will be a unique experience for audiences here as they will be treated to a stunning visual and aural feast. It will be a rare chance for audiences to hear and see music from one the most vibrant eras of European history, performed live here in Malaysia.

The concert will be staged at The Actors Studio @ KuAsh Theatre, TTDI, from 17-20 October 2013.
