3 Things You Might Not Know about Australian International School

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

This post is brought to you in part by Australian International School.

The Australian International School Malaysia (AISM) was a brave new venture in 1999, backed by an Australian and Malaysian partnership, to promote quality Australian primary and secondary education in Malaysia. From temporary premises in the Country Heights estates to the panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and lake at the Mines Resort City, AISM’s future was secured when they became part of the Taylor’s Education Group in March 2007.

From 3 students in February 2000 to 660 students in 2015, AISM has continued to grow steadily to become a school of choice for Australian, Malaysian and another thirty seven nationalities.

Here are 3 things about the Australian International School Malaysia you may not know about.

1. Internationally Recognised Curriculum

1.1

The Australian International School Malaysia (AISM) is registered and accredited to deliver the Australian, New South Wales Board of Studies curriculum. The curriculum is adapted to include an international perspective and draws on best practice from many similar well known curriculum models from around the world.

The curriculum is world renowned with Australia rating as one of the highest performing countries in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s (OECD) Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA).  Australia performs well above the OECD average and is considered to provide a “high-quality, high-equity” curriculum. The curriculum prepares students for further education in universities from various parts of the world.

Students are taught skills that will make them employable in the workforce. Communication, leadership, teamwork and problem solving are key skills imparted by the teaching staff through class and outdoor activities.

The broad curriculum aims to provide students with opportunities to explore their areas of interest and expertise, extend their knowledge and understanding, and excel in an internationally-recognised Higher School Certificate (HSC).

2. Specialized Student Assessments

2.1 AISM

A significant difference between the HSC and other international Senior Curriculums is the recognition that students should be given opportunities to be assessed in a range of ways other than just by external examinations.

Assessment for the HSC has two components; 50% of the overall grade comes from a final examination that is set and marked in Australia and the other 50% comes from school-based assignments, examinations and projects. This form of assessment provides every student with the opportunity to maximise their grades thus opening up a greater range of international tertiary pathways.

3. It’s Closer Than You Think

3. 01 AISM Aerial (1)

Located on a  7.5 acre campus in a secure gated community in Seri Kembangan, AISM overlooks the picturesque South Lake of Mines Resort City, a short drive from Kuala Lumpur City Center. AISM is a mere 30 mins drive from most expatriate residential areas such as Ampang, Subang Jaya, Bangsar and 5 mins from 3 gated expatriate residences close to the school.

The school is well located and easily accessible via the MRR2, Besraya, Silk, KESAS and North South Highways. An advantage of the school’s location is that the journey to and fro is against heavy traffic flow during peak hours, making it hassle-free for students and parents to get to the school.

Besides that, transportation services are provided every morning to the school and at two intervals in the afternoon to accommodate students returning directly from school and after school activities.

AISM provides a conducive environment in which students are able to learn and grow. Students have the opportunity to enjoy the wide and green spaces of the campus to learn beyond the classroom amid the plethora of facilities available. The success of the Australian Curriculum comes from teachers being able to cater for individual students in a diverse student population who live in distinctive and diverse locations.

This is achieved through the flexibility built into the well-resourced, online curriculum through the interlinked dimensions of learning areas, general capabilities and cross-curriculum priorities. This flexibility allows students of all abilities, including those with special needs and gifts, to experience rigorous, robust and relevant learning opportunities that will allow each of them to be challenged, engaged and well-prepared for adult life in a dynamic world.

Highly qualified international teachers; predominantly Australian trained and experienced, are continually up-skilling their knowledge whilst encouraging students to explore, excel and extend their learning to their best potential, both in and out of the classroom through a  holistic learning experience.
