Beginning January 2016, people in Johor will be able to enjoy free WiFi services at several hotspot areas.

According to Johor’s Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, a total of RM12.9 million had been allocated to prepare 135 free WiFi hotspots in Johor, which will be available in stages.

According to the minister, the Johor Free WiFi Project is a result of the ‘Suara Hati Johor’ survey which was conducted in 2013.

Based on the findings of the survey, 20.36% of respondents had requested for telecommunication facilities in Johor to be further improved.

The project covers a three-year installation period. It will involve 10 districts, 16 local authorities and 13 public housing project areas in Johor.

On 31st August, 2015, Dataran Bandaraya Johor Bahru became the first of the 135 locations to offer free WiFi service.
