The budget passenger terminal of Kuala Lumpur International Airport is supposedly sinking, with cracks appearing in the taxiway and water forming pools that airplanes must drive through.

According to AirAsia’s CEO Aireen Omar, the defects stated above could cause flight delays, wear and tear on planes and may even pose potential safety risk. AirAsia, the budget terminal’s biggest, user has asked Malaysian authorities to fix the problems before it becomes a safety risk to passengers.

“The airport is still sinking,” Aireen said. The operator, Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd., “has done some partial resurfacing, but what the airport actually needs is a permanent solution.”

According to Bloomberg Business, construction expenses for KLIA 2 have ballooned from an initial estimate of about 1.7 billion ringgit to 4 billion ringgit.

Malaysia’s Transport Ministry has set up an independent audit committee to submit a report on ponding (unwanted pooling of water) issues associated with KLIA 2. According to Bloomberg, Malaysia Airports has used its own funds to rectify the situation and will be responsible for the findings and proposed solutions.

KLIA 1 was properly done and is still a nice airport. KLIA 2 is a total failure, built without thinking of passengers and could be name the best example of what not to do when you are building an airport
