The newly-opened Sunway Putra Mall recently celebrated the Hari Raya festivity with a myriad of activities and excitement, with the theme ‘Weaving A Joyous Raya.’

The celebrations kick-started with an Iftar, a breaking of fast session, with the Yayasan Chow Kit children. The children together with their caretakers were thoroughly entertained by activities such as caricature, magic shows, Raya Jazz Band and more.

Among those present at the event were Tan Sri Datuk Seri Razman Hashim, Deputy Chairman of Sunway Group; Mr HC Chan, CEO of Sunway Shopping Malls, Mr Kevin Tan, COO of Sunway Shopping Malls and Ms Phang Sau Lian, General Manager of Sunway Putra Mall.

“As this is our first time celebrating the festive season, we’d like to do it together with our friends and neighbours, getting everyone together under one roof and strengthening the bond,” said Chan, adding that “It certainly gelled well with our theme ‘Weaving A Joyous Raya’, as we ‘weave’ and unite everybody from different backgrounds.”

Phang added, “We took this opportunity to share and celebrate Hari Raya with the future generations, showing them the uniqueness of Malaysia’s diversity and culture, for them to preserve and carry on the traditions”.

Pusat Jagaan Kanak-Kanak Yayasan Chow Kit provides documentation, education, counseling, shelter and foster care and looks after health and wellness for children of 4 – 12 years old around the Chow Kit area. It also helps to seek for job opportunities for parents in need, financial assistance, besides giving empowerment and support to them, among others.

The breaking of fast session was held at the mall’s main F&B precinct, Selera Street. They were treated with delectable dishes from Teochew Chendul, Ayam Penyet Express, Lorong Seratus Tahun, Popiah Club, and many more.

The Yayasan Chow Kit children were presented with goodie bags and tokens, besides receiving their duit raya. “Giving back to the society has always been a practice for Sunway Group, for the betterment of the community,” said Phang. “Upholding this custom, Sunway Putra Mall firmly believes that helping out and assisting those in need within its immediate area is indeed a priority”.
