The devastating earthquake that hit Nepal on Saturday has left more than 4,000 people dead, and the final toll could rise sharply once rescuers reach some of the cut-off areas. Saturday’s 7.8 magnitude quake also left many injured and dead in neighbouring India and China.

In the aftermath of the quake, many nations, intergovernmental and nongovernmental organizations as well as relief agencies are doing all they can to assist and send supplies in the form of food, medicine and even financial assistance.

Malaysia is also lending a helping hand. Among the teams which are part of the Malaysian mission to Nepal are the SMART Team from the National Security Council, and the Red Crescent MERCY Malaysia.

Also, the Office of Malaysia’s Special Envoy to India and South Asia (Infrastructure) in the Prime Minister’s Department launched the Earthquake Humanitarian Aid Mission, to collect essential items for earthquake victims in Nepal.

According to Malaysia’s Special Envoy to India and South Asia on Infrastructure, Datuk Seri S.Samy Vellu, the office will work together with Hot Media Sdn Bhd, Team Force Security Sdn Bhd and the All Malaysia Malayalee Association to collect essential items to be donated, such as blankets, food and other items, to be sent to Kathmandu.

These donations will be sent via the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) aircraft.

Here’s how you can help

1. Donate essential items such as medicine, blankets, tents, clothes, kitchen utensils, water and dried food from today until Sunday. Send in your items to the Hot Media Sdn Bhd office in Petaling Jaya between 10am and 7pm. Cash donations are not accepted.
